Sanctuary Cottage – from the moment you drive into this breathtaking, gated property you know you are in for a special experience. The grounds are lovingly maintained by warm and gracious hosts, Beverly and Edward. You truly feel like you have just come “home”. The cottage is full of luxurious amenities from the hardwood floors to the heated bathroom tiles. Bay windows in the front of the cottage provide you with a view of the incredible gardens and Koi pond. A true gardeners delight to view a sea of Agapanthus and Bear's Breeches growing in abundance with numerous other plant material along the meandering pathways that you can explore. Great restaurants within walking distance of the cottage. A convenient home base from which to explore Carmel, Monterey and Big Sur. Beverly and Edward’s lifelong insight and advice of the area truly enhanced our daily explorations of this spectacular region. We will not hesitate to return to our “home away from home”.

Wow. What an incredible place. A sanctuary, an oasis, a slice of heaven...it is even nicer than the beautiful pictures on the website. Ed and Beverly are salt-of-the-earth people, so genuine and welcoming. Bella and Jackson provide a great dog fix without being overbearing for those of you who are not into dogs (we are, so we loved them!). Being within walking distance of restaurants and wine tasting rooms is an added bonus. The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need and the pool is ozone so no chlorine smell. My favorite: the slate heated floors in the bathroom! We will definitely return to this special place.

My fiance and I have stayed at Beverly and Edward's cottage many times and each time are left feeling refreshed, relaxed and rejuvinated. The acres of land around the cottage are stunning, and have been designed and maintained with complete love and care. Wild birds, coy fish and butterflies are plentiful and give you a feeling of connection with nature around you. The cottage is always immaculate and from the ambient lighting to the heated floors and slate rain shower you are surrounded in sophisticated comfort. The pool is private and refreshing after lounging in the sun. The great part about Carmel Valley is that is is often bathed in sunshine while the coast is foggy and drizzly. There are also a couple fire pits for enjoying a glass of wine at night. Beverly and Ed are beyond gracious hosts and seem so happy to share what they have with their guests. Wonderful people and a wonderful escape.

My husband and I lead stressful impacted lives and we could not have been more nurtured or nourished by the environment and the care of Bev and Ed. Their attention to detail and generosity of spirit fill the sanctuary. The fresh berries, the homemade jam....the gentle dogs and sweet animals graced the most beautifully tended grounds, rich in family history. The cottage is filled with loving care from the exquisite linens to the family china and heated bathroom floor. You can choose to relax or be called to walk to the many tasting rooms and wonderful restaurants nearby. The hardest part was leaving BEV and ED and their finned, feathered and furred family. We will be back. With deep gratitude, Sue and Gary

A wonderful home away from home

We enjoyed every minute of our stay at the Sanctuary Cottage, lovingly built and maintained by Ed and Beverly. The cottage has every creature comfort you could imagine with a bonus of large, sparkling clean glass windows in the living room and bedroom that open up to a beautifully landscaped pond filled with koi and lilly pads and surrounded by giant oaks and benches. Bev and Ed are gracious, helpful and a joy, as are their sweet, mellow dogs, Bella and Jackson. And by the way, the weather is sunnier and warmer in Carmel Valley as opposed to Carmel. On a score of 1 - 10 we'd give it an 11. We can't wait to return. Carole and Bob

A Place to Rest and Renew

Beverly and Ed have created a beautiful and restful home away from home, with attention to every detail. You drive down a long driveway to the property below - 8 acres of land with several acres of gardens including vegetables, roses, and beautiful nooks and crannies lovingly landscaped around several benches to sit on to ponder the nature around you. The cottage is impeccable - large bathroom, comfortable bedroom, full service kitchen with large refrigerator, so you can eat at home, if you so choose. The pool was a perfect temperature - warm and comfortable. Being in Carmel Valley allows for sunshine, when it might be foggy in Camel-by-the-Sea; but the location is close to wineries, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Big Sur, 17 Mile Drive, Monterey - with a plethora of fun things to do and wonderful restaurants. We stayed for a week and had a restful week away, with Beverly and Ed kindly balancing making suggestions for local activities while also giving us space to relax and renew. We'll be returning and have already told several friends about this excellent vacation home away from home.

This place is indeed a sanctuary, a home away from home, lovingly decorated with great care and consideration for every comfort. Beverly and Edward are most gracious and fun hosts who make you feel welcome and at ease right away. The gardens are beautiful and it is very relaxing sitting by the pond with waterfall, watching the fish and all kinds of wildlife that is attracted by the water. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.Beverly & Edward are extremely helpful with any kind request or question. Just across the property is a lovely park and within a very short walking distance is the village with great restaurants. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back often.

I had a wonderful visit to the Cottage. It is a great place just to relax, and enjoy the beautiful grounds. In the morning I really enjoyed sipping my coffee by the beautiful Koi pond. I travel for business constantly, so finding a nice quiet place to stay when I'm off is very important to me. The Cottage is beautiful furnished and the heated floor in the bath area is really amazing! Being able to walk to the fine restaurants and shops in the Village is really nice. This is really a special place, and I look forward to my next stay.
